What Happened At Midway

The Battle of Midway was one of the most important battles of World War II. It was the turning point of the war in the Pacific between the United States and Japan. The battle took place over four days between June 4th and June 7th in 1942. The US Doolittle Raid on Tokyo was followed Japan decided to seize a small an island called Midway from the US. This way the Japanese will have a good perimeter and defensive line to fall back on when they attack Hawaii. The American's had broken the Japanese code and learnt of the Japanese plans called "Magic". In a daring US move, The US naval commanders set up an ambush for the Japanese fleet. All the Japanese details were know by the US to the Japanese fleet deployment, how many troops, small ships and what time the attack. The Americans sail their entire available carrier fleet, to lay in wait North of the Midway Island to deliver a surprise blow to the unsuspecting Japanese. Americans destroyed four Japanese carriers and most of their flight crews. This was a huge win for the US fleet as the crushed the Japanese fleet. The Japanese advance in Pacific was shortly being taken by over by the US and its allies
The USS Yorktown was an aircraft carrier used by the United States Fleet during their World war 2. The Yorktown fought many Naval battles against Japan. It was originally designed to be a battleship, But the ship was converted into one of the navy's first aircraft carrier to fulfill the required terms of the war and what US wanted to do with it. The carrier was assigned for duty in 1928 to the pacific fleet for its whole career where the carrier would eventually be put to rest.
